Matching Snacks to Wine This Game Day

Matching Snacks to Wine This Game Day

When you think about getting your friends together to watch a game on the big screen, the first thing is almost towards getting beer to go with your snacks. However, just because this is your reflex doesn’t mean that beer is the best match for the event. For game day snack ideas matched to wines, keep reading.

Red Wine

Often considered to be a quite person’s drink, anybody who has been in a wine bar knows that every red wine drinker quickly becomes vocal – perfect for watching a big game.

  • Cheese Plate
  • Pop Corn
  • Grill cheese sandwich pieces (believe it or not)
  • Meat empanadas
  • Potatoes wedges with chipotle mayo
  • Fresh fruit and berries
  • Pizza

Given the nature of red wine, it might be a good idea to stick with watching exciting games away from carpeted and hard to clean areas.

White Wine

The safer of the two wine options, white wine can best be enjoyed with more active games where spills from excitement are almost encouraged. If you’re considering white wine, here are some great snack matches:

  • Buffalo wings
  • Tuna and Mayonnaise dip (serving this in a bread bowl is a nice touch)
    Shellfish
  • Shrimp, crab, and lobster
  • Avocado dip

If it’s a Basketball game you’re watching, head to the Groupon Coupons page for NBA Store for themed merchandise to dress up your house for the party. If you are in a friendly bet with your friends, this is also a good place to get the winner’s prize.

Rose Wine

If you’re looking for something in between the two, then consider a rose wine paired with some of these snacks.

  • Anchovies
  • Prosciutto
  • Hummus
  • Pizza (cheese pizza especially)
  • Quiche
  • Couscous
  • Turkey
  • Sausages

Despite its rose color it is important to remember that rose wine has the ability to stain your carpets just as much as red wine can. If you are serving rose wine, consider non-carpeted areas.

While it can seem strange to serve anything that doesn’t come in a red cup with table tennis balls in it for game-day, consider changing things up with some wine and these great snack matches.
